MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo would be detained in the room previously occupied by former Sen. Leila de Lima during her 7-year legal battle.

In a press conference, PNP spokesperson Jean Fajardo showed the media the "simple" room where Guo would be housed while under their custody.

"Yang detention facility na yan ay isang payak na kwarto, may CR, may maliit na table at higaan, walang aircon. Ceiling fan lang," Fajardo said.

"This is the same room na in-occupy ni Sen. De Lima nung siya po ay ma-detain sa custodial facility," the spokesperson added.

De Lima languished behind bars for close seven years after the Duterte administration filed drug cases against her. She was acquitted of all charges, which she insisted were trumped up in retaliation for her criticism on the war on drugs.

Guo will be detained by the PNP instead of the Senate after her camp opted not to post bail on her criminal cases filed before a Tarlac court.

The PNP vowed that no special treatment would be given to Guo, who was accused of backing the operation of an illegal POGO hub in her municipality of Bamban.
