PNP operations forced Quiboloy surrender, subsequent arrest: DILG

MANILA — (UPDATED) Policemen had already cornered Kingdom of Jesus Christ leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy inside the group's compound which eventually forced his surrender on Sunday, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In a press briefing on Monday, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos and PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil presented Quiboloy and his co-accused Jackielyn Roy, Ingrid Canada, Cresente Canada, and Sylvia Cemañes to the public.

Authorities said they gave Quiboloy a deadline to surrender, stating that if he did not comply, police would enter the building where he was located.

PNP PRO11 Regional Director Nicolas Torre III mentioned that they extended the deadline to avoid chaos and ensure no one was harmed.

Marbil said however that they were misled into a "game of deception." He explained that whenever they approached the building where Quiboloy was, his camp would call and say they would surrender, but it never happened.

Marbil further stated that he ordered Torre to pressure Quiboloy's camp and set a deadline for him to emerge.

The PNP noted that Quiboloy only had two conditions: to board a government plane and to not see Torre's face. The PNP stated that Quiboloy had nowhere else to go, which led to his surrender.

Abalos also belied claims that Quiboloy came from outside the KOJC compound to surrender, calling it a fabricated story.

Abalos warned those who harbored and assisted Quiboloy in evading capture that they would also face charges.
