MANILA — A performance review of Cabinet officials will not impede government projects and services, the Palace assured the public on Thursday.

More than 30 Cabinet secretaries and presidential advisers have already sent in their courtesy resignations or have said they will comply with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s order.

Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro clarified that the officials would remain in their posts while the review is underway.

“Mananatili sila sa kanilang posisyon, siguro ito iyong tamang panahon para ipakita nila na dapat silang manatili sa kanilang posisyon," Castro told a media briefing.

Castro said the review will look into performance as well as whether officials are facing allegations of corruption.

WHAT PROMPTED THE REVIEW

The Palace earlier called the president’s order a “decisive move” to “recalibrate his administration following the results of the recent elections”.

She said Marcos Jr. acknowledges the administration slate's performance in the recent elections indicates people are not satisfied with government performance.

“Pero kahit ano pa man ‘yan, kung ano man ang maging resulta, ganito pa rin dapat ang gawin ng ating Pangulo. Mas mapabilis pa rin ang performance ng administrasyon,” she noted.

When asked about reports that Marcos Jr. wants specific Cabinet officials out, Castro said: "There’s none as of the moment."

Asked why the President has called for courtesy resignations from officials he can axe outright, Castro said it is to give them a chance to "realize" if they have fallen short.
