At least three party list lawmakers expressed doubts a Senate resolution would influence the International Criminal Court to return former President Rodrigo Duterte to the Philippines from detention at The Hague, the Netherlands.They issued the statement in response to the plan of three PDP-Laban senators to file a Senate resolution seeking Duterte’s immediate return.ML Party List Rep. Leila De Lima and ACT Teachers Party List Rep. Antonio Tinio believe the move is “mere political posturing”.“Sa tingin ko, political posturing na lang ‘yan kasi wala na ho sa kapangyarihan ng gobyerno natin na pabalikin siya. Kasi ang isang international tribunal, which is the ICC with competent jurisdiction over the alleged crimes, the crimes against humanity. At nakuha na nga siya, kasi na-arresto nga siya, legally, validly, ay nandoon na sa kanila. Hindi na nila ‘yan pakikinggan kung ano man ang sasabihin ng mga domestic authorities nila. They can take note of those, but they cannot grant. Hindi nila pwedeng pagbigyan ‘yung mga ganyang usapin na “pabalikin n’yo na”. Terry Ridon, for his part, said Duterte’s case is now up to the ICC.“Well, I think we have to be very frank na there&#x27;s nothing that the Philippine government can do today to bring the former president back home. He’s being made to answer for extrajudicial killings under the Duterte drug war. So, mabigat po na paratang ‘yun. So, of course, they are free, obviously, to do a Senate resolution. But you have to be very frank. It is not within the power of the Philippine government to send the former president back home,” he explained.On Monday, Sen. Robinhood Padilla said Senators Bong Go and Ronald dela Rosa have signed his resolution seeking the immediate return of former President Duterte to the Philippines from the ICC detention center in the Hague. As of Tuesday, it has not yet been filed.Duterte was arrested on March 11 on his arrival from Hong Kong at the request of the ICC as part of its probe into his &quot;war on drugs&quot; that defined his presidency. The ICC warrant for Duterte&#x27;s arrest said that as president, the 80-year-old Duterte allegedly created, funded, and armed death squads that carried out murders of purported drug users and dealers.He was brought to The Hague in the Netherlands on the same day he was arrested.Duterte on March 14 appeared via video link before ICC judges.
