MANILA - Ayala-led AC Health partners with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for an expanded HIV care program.AC Health and USAID signed a memorandum of understanding in Manila.USAID will train the doctors, pharmacists and other medical personnel under the AC Health group on HIV, sexually transmitted diseases, and even how to talk to patients about it.US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson said the partnership will use the reach of the private sector and the expertise of USAID to help improve the healthcare system in the Philippines, particularly on HIV care.“Will leverage the power of collaboration and the resources and skills of the private sector to address the HIV epidemic,” the ambassador said.Beverly Ho, AC Health&#x27;s Chief Health Officer, said the training will help them respond to customer or patient concerns. Aside from training, there may also soon be free HIV testing in their clinics.“Dapat the frontline staff, pharmacist assistants namin, dapat kaya nila mag counsel or magbigay advise sa pasyente na pumasok sa drugstore…. Kagaya rin sa Konsulta MD the app that provides gender affirming and trans health services,” said Ho.Romel Lacson, Country Director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also highlighted the importance of such a partnership saying this will not only help the medical professionals but more importantly make the public more aware of HIV.“HIV remains a significant public health challenge in the Philippines with the country grappling with one of the fastest HIV epidemics in Asia if not the world,” Lacson asserted.AC Health Chairman Fernando Zobel de Ayala also hailed this partnership saying the company is aiming to help uplift the Philippine healthcare system.“Allowing us to combine expertise, resources, and networks to expand access to preventive care and self-testing options.”AC Health includes Healthway clinics and hospitals, Generika Drugstore, KonsultaMD, St. Joseph Drug, MedEthix, and I.E. Medica.
