Running has evolved into a vibrant social activity that brings people together, regardless of age, speed, or body type. It is no longer just an individual pursuit for fitness or competition; instead, it has become a community-driven event that fosters camaraderie and inclusivity while sharing the same love for fitness and running.

Across various locations, numerous running clubs have emerged, offering regular meetups and training sessions for beginners and seasoned runners alike. In addition, races of all types—from fun runs and charity events to marathons and ultramarathons—are being organized, creating opportunities for people to connect, challenge themselves, and celebrate their shared love for running. This growing trend has turned running into a lifestyle embraced by many around the world, especially now in the Philippines.

For 13 years, the McDonald's Stripes Run has not only brought people together, but is also supported yearly by many families, friends, and organizations that share their cause.

This year, over 10,000 participants, plus their fur babies joined the running event to make every step count for a good cause.

Inclusivity for all shapes, sizes, and ages

What makes the McDonald's Stripes Run special is its inclusivity. From seasoned runners taking on the 10K to families enjoying the 1K, 3K, or 5K, there is a race for everyone. Even Grimace and Birdie woke up early to join the fun, and of course, Ronald McDonald was there too.

The 1K Fur Stripes category, where participants could run alongside their dogs, was a clear favorite and among the first to sell out. "Ang isa sa rason kung bakit marami tayo sa 2024 Stripes Run ay dahil marami kaming categories na for everyone," said Adi Timbol-Hernandez, McDonald's AVP for Corporate Relations and Impact.

To ensure safety, all participating dogs underwent thorough veterinary checks before joining their owners at the starting line. The sight of pets and their owners running together brought an extra layer of excitement, capturing the vibrant community spirit that defines McDonald's Stripes Run.

After the race, the Race Village offered post-run activities that families and kids enjoyed, warm up Zumba sessions, and the awarding ceremony.

Beyond the finish line: A day of family, fun, and star power

Packed with unforgettable moments, one of the most enchanting moments was the story-reading session with the beloved celebrity family—Judy Ann Santos, Ryan Agoncillo, and their daughter Luna. Families gathered in a warm, inviting corner of the Race Village, mesmerized by the trio's heartfelt storytelling that brought smiles and sparked imaginations.

Moreover, the magic did not end there—as celebrity guests Ysabel Ortega, Barbie Forteza, and David Licauco were also present to cheer on the runners, adding an irresistible sparkle to the event. Plus, to keep the energy buzzing, the lively DJ Chacha and Vince Velasco took the stage, ensuring the crowd stayed energized and the celebration never did not slow down.

"Ang goal namin sa McDo ay to bring families together para mag-enjoy sila," shared Timbol-Hernandez.

Every step makes a difference

At the heart of Stripes Run is the commitment to giving back. Every penny raised from the event goes to RMHC's Bahay Bulilit Learning Centers, which provide early education to children in need.

"Ang proceeds ng run ay mapupunta sa RMHC Bahay Bulilit," said Timbol-Hernandez. "Bukod sa pag-enjoy nila, nakatulong din sila."

Bahay Bulilit serves children ages 3 to 5, offering early childhood education across various communities in the Philippines. These centers play a pivotal role in preparing young minds for school, equipping them with the skills they need to build brighter futures.

Looking ahead: Strides toward a brighter future

The organizers are already hard at work planning Stripes Run 2025, with a goal to expand participation and amplify their impact for children in need.

"Target namin na ipagpatuloy ito sa mga susunod na taon upang mas marami pang kababayan ang mapasaya at matulungan," says Timbol-Hernandez.

(Our goal is to continue this in the coming years, so that there will be more participants that will be happy and helped.)

Missed this year's event? Do not worry—there is always next year. Mark your calendars, lace up your shoes, and get ready to join McDonald's Stripes Run 2025. It is not just a race; it is an opportunity to make a lasting difference and build a bright future, one stride at a time.
