<p>CEBU — Members of the Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu (HRRAC) continue to reel from the effects of the quake in the region as many bookings have been cancelled. </p><p>HRRAC President Mia Singson-Leon said the cancellations are across segments for both group and individual bookings, “with over millions worth of lost business”.</p><p>“The reason is really concerns over safety, should another earthquake hit the city. Another concern is cancelled flights or boat trips right after calamities, which could result in them being unable to return home,” said Singson-Leon.</p><p>She added that there is a misconception on damaged roads and bridges in central and southern Cebu that have been spared by the 6.9 killer quake on September 30.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/10/16/earthquakes-affect-cebu-davao-tourism-operations-continue-in-other-areas-1217">Business Earthquakes affect Cebu, Davao tourism; operations continue in other areas</a></div><p>“Our occupancy in the hotel, as well as, our meeting spaces, have further dropped thus tourism jobs and livelihoods are at risk if this continues,” added Singson-Leon.</p><p>The group is hoping that the confidence of the visitors will return as Cebu&#x27;s hospitality industry remains open.</p><p>“Our member hotels, resorts, and restaurants have undergone rigorous safety checks, and we&#x27;re proud to report that the vast majority are ready to welcome you with the world-class service Cebu is known for,” Singson-Leon  said.</p><p>Most of Cebu’s tourist sites such as Mactan, Moalboal, Badian and Cebu city remain intact after the quake.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>TOUR GUIDES ALSO AFFECTED</strong></div><p>Members of the Cebu Association of Tour Guides (CATG) also feel the decline in the numbers tours since the quake happened.</p><p>CATG President PG Guba said tourists are wary of the quake aftermath.</p><p>This, even if engineers have cleared the safety of tourist sites and hotels.</p><p>“We don’t want that to be the message,” said Guba, adding that their tours continue to operate as usual especially after assessments of structures.</p><p>“It is supposed to be our peak season. It is alarming. This is what we are waiting for since the long drought of June and July,” she added.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/1/cebu-quake-likely-triggered-by-fault-that-had-not-produced-powerful-tremor-in-past-400-years-1012">Cebu quake likely triggered by fault that had not produced powerful tremor in past 400 years</a></div><p>Guba added that they also have a protocol to implement with guests within sites and hotels should another tremor occur.</p><p>“We are doing everything we can to make everybody safe,” Guba said.</p><div> </div><div><strong>TOURISM UNAFFECTED IN BANTAYAN ISLAND</strong></div><p>Meanwhile, officials from Santa Fe, Bantayan in northern Cebu clarified that their tourism activities are not affected despite the recent quake.</p><p>This, after several bookings were cancelled after the quake hit.</p><p>Councilor Jaypee Lao, who chairs the local committee on tourism, said they are “completely open for business”.</p><p>“Photos of Hagnaya Port submerged in water is a natural occurrence most particularly during high tide. There have been slight delays in docking and loading of passengers because of the tide but no ferry trip disruptions so far,” explained Lao.</p><p>Lao said that Santa Fe, famous for its white sand beaches, is not significantly affected structurally.</p><p>“There have been no major damage or injuries, and all tourist facilities, accommodations, transport services and attractions are open and welcoming guests,” Lao added.</p><p>Santa Fe, Bantayan Island can be reached through the Hagnaya and Kawit port in San Remigio and Medellin, respectively.</p><p>One can also reach the island through plane from the Mactan Cebu International Airport in just 30 minutes.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/1/cebu-quake-death-toll-reaches-60-as-injured-overwhelm-hospitals-1235">Cebu quake death toll nears 70 as injured overwhelm hospitals</a></div>
