Filipino bakers are set to discuss current bread prices in the remaining “ber” months amid rising bread consumption and movement in egg and butter prices.Chito Chavez, president of the Asosasyon ng Panaderong Pilipino, said bread prices remain stable for now as the country celebrates World Bread Day. Many bakeries are selling pandesal at one piso each in celebration of the event.However, increases in butter prices could affect prices of special breads such as ensaymada, cheese rolls and cakes.“The moment there is an increase in the price of materials particularly sugar, butter, eggs, LPG…nakakaapekto ‘yan sa presyo ng ating tinapay,” he said in a DZMM interview. He denied that bakeries are cutting corners on quality, saying loaf sizes and formulation are standard.
