'One RFID' for all tollways is manna for PH truckers

A truckers’ organization welcomed Wednesday the transportation department’s move to use only one RFID for all tollways.Mary Zapata, president of the Confederation of Truckers Association of the Philippines, said the use of only one RFID for all tollways has been one of their requests to the Department of Transportation for the longest time.“OK sa amin ‘yan kung isang RFID isang account para isa lang ang iyong ime-maintain,” she said in a DZMM interview. Zapata said all trucks under CTAP have RFID because it removes the need to give cash to drivers for toll.“If we give allowance for toll fees, minsan ang gagawin nila iiwas sila sa highway hahanap sila ng ibang daan. They can save and keep the money intended for the toll fee. ‘Yan ang isang number one naalis [dahil sa RFID]. Less cash entrustment to the driver,” she said.Zapata, however, has one request to toll operators: to ensure that there will be no problems in the toll system, which could affect all major highways.“What if magkaproblema sa SLEX, di ka na ein makakadaan sa NLEX?” she asked. “This is just a matter of adjustment kasi computerized naman sila diyan.Before the new system, drivers needed to have an Easytrip RFID to pass through the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), C5 Link, and the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).Motorists also needed an Autosweep RFID to pass through the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway, STAR Tollway, NAIA Expressway (NAIAX), Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), and Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX).
