MANILA - A one-month moratorium on amortization payments for public housing loan borrowers affected by the recent earthquake and storms is now in effect, the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation (NHMFC) said on Friday.The automatic moratorium started on October 3 and will last until November 2, said Sharah Jane Falceso, officer in charge of the NHMFC’s Securitized Accounts Division.No penalties and surcharges will be charged, she added.“Ito po ay automatic na i-aapply natin sa mga accounts na affected po sa nagdaang Bagyong Nando at Opong at ‘yong mga nasa lugar na apektado ng magnitude 6.9 na lindol sa Central Visayas,” she said in an interview on state television PTV.The implementation of the moratorium is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling to assist the disaster victims, Falceso added.A total of 822 accounts are qualified under the moratorium in Regions IV-B (MiMaRoPa), V (Bicol Region), VI (Western Visayas)  and VII (Central Visayas), according to data from the NHFMC.Aside from the moratorium, NHFMC also launched its online housing fair open to all Filipinos, running from September 23 to October 22.“Nais po naming imbitahan ang mga nais magkaroon ng sariling tahanan.Welcome po ang lahat ng ating kababayan, pati ang mga Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs),”  said Catherine Genita, officer-in-charge of the NHMFC’s Acquired Assets Division.
