<p>MANILA — Several food manufacturers have agreed to keep current prices until the end of the year in deference to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr&#x27;s order to the Department of Trade and Industry not to allow any upward price adjustments for basic and prime commodities.</p><p>Makers of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal, which belong to the basic goods with a suggested retail price, said they won&#x27;t ask for any increase for the holiday season.</p><p>Asosasyon ng Panaderong Pilipino President Chito Chavez has called on his fellow bakers to heed the request of the president. According to Chavez, it remains feasible for bakers to maintain current prices of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal, but they need to raise prices of cakes and pastries as the holiday season approaches.</p><p>Chavez said prices of chocolate, butter and other raw materials have all gone up, including operating costs. In effect, bakers recover losses on Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal from sales of cakes and pastries, which are not part of the suggested retail price scheme.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>SARDINES</strong></div><p>Meanwhile, the Canned Sardines Association of the Philippines (CSAP) said it was not consulted by the DTI on the issue.</p><p>CSAP Executive Director Francisco Buencamino said there is no problem and sardine makers are willing to freeze prices until year&#x27;s end, but the DTI should have talked to them before announcing that manufacturers have already agreed.</p><p>Buencamino said that with rising diesel prices, the government should discuss with oil firms to give discounts to fisherfolk catching sardines. As fuel prices soar, Buencamino said manufacturers will need around P4-P5 upward adjustment by next year, though it&#x27;s unlikely to be approved.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>CANNED MEAT</strong></div><p>Manufacturers of canned meat like corned beef, meat loaf and beef loaf will also follow the president&#x27;s directive. </p><p>The Philippine Association of Meat Processors Incorporated (PAMPI) said they have no pending request for any price hike for canned meat.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>LPG PRICE OUTLOOK</strong></div><p>Meanwhile, it appears that LPG prices will remain as it is for the month of November.</p><p>As of October 30, Regasco President Arnel Ty said the contract price is down by around $20 per metric ton, which is equivalent to a reduction of P1/kilo.</p><p>But there is still one trading day left on October 31 that may still change the current contract price. According to Ty, with a weaker peso-dollar exchange rate, this small reduction may be wiped out, thus his estimate is a rollover, which means no adjustment or a slight reduction of P0.50/kilo.</p><p>But if the contract price suddenly rises, just like what happened 2 months ago, there is still a possibility of a price hike for LPG.</p><p>In the Philippines, LPG prices only move once a month, always on the first day of every month, unlike diesel and gasoline prices, which change on a weekly basis.</p>
