MANILA -- The Philippines’ tokenized-asset market is expected to reach at least $60 billion by 2030. This was revealed by a study entitled &quot;Project Bayani: The Philippines’ Asset Tokenization Opportunity,&quot; which was launched in Taguig, Thursday.The report is a joint project of the Philippine Digital Asset Exchange (PDAX), Saison Capital, and Onigiri Capital. It explores how tokenization and digital assets can transform financial inclusion and capital market participation in the country.PDAX Founder and Chief Executive Officer Nichel Gaba explained that tokenization is “creating a digital representation of ownership on the blockchain over an asset.” This allows users to buy or own a part of something, not necessarily buying the whole thing or asset. This lowers the entry point for investors and allows more Filipinos to join and invest.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/2025/6/16/bsp-sandbox-phase-ends-for-peso-linked-token-1641">BSP sandbox phase ends for peso-linked token</a></div>The report added that the country is a prime spot for tokenization to grow further because of the Filipinos’ strong usage of e-wallet platforms and the adoption of cryptocurrencies and other tokenized investments. National Treasurer Sharon Almanza welcomed the launch of the report saying the Philippines has growing interest in tokenized government bonds since it was first launched in 2020. Recently GBonds was also launched to offer government securities for as low as P5,000.“Some banks would require 100,000 [pesos], 200,000 [pesos], but for our primary issuance, for our RTB [retail treasury bonds], it’s actually smaller. It&#x27;s about 5,000 peso,” said Almanza referring to the lower starting investment for RTB31 via the GCash app.Gaba added, “460,000 were able to register in the two-week timeframe of RTB31.” Officials said tokenization democratizes capital market investments since more Filipinos can now invest at a lower starting amount and it has also become easier because it can be done online.In the $60 billion potential, public equities have the highest potential at $26 billion, followed by government-backed bonds with $24 billion, mutual funds $6 billion, and other assets at $4 billion.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/11/20/why-is-bitcoin-plunging-1623">Why is bitcoin plunging? </a> </div>Figures mentioned are minimum amounts that may be reached by 2030 or less than 5 years from now. Officials added that tokenization can go beyond bonds and stocks. “Aside from bonds, I personally would like to get access to more equities… Something similar to a REIT, we can also tokenize ownership of property,” said Gaba.They just hope for more education and awareness so Filipinos will know more about this type of investments. They also welcome the regulation from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Securities and Exchange Commission, among others.
