MANILA — Union Bank of the Philippines has added about two million new customers this year, and it targets to reach 20 million total customers in 2026.UnionBank Chief Marketing and Experience Officer Albert Cuadrante said they are still among the top 3 largest banks in the country in terms of customer retail base. Currently, it has over 18 million customers, and the target is to add around 1.5 to 2 million more next year.“We added about two million more to our base. It also just launched the ‘Zero-Touch Onboarding’- a fully digital payroll account opening process. This ensures easier payroll service for all types of companies with no manual HR [human resources] processes. “It’s the precursor of democratized payroll. It’s happening in the global landscape and this is the precursor to that because people can choose the bank account they want for their salaries. People can choose what bank-- that employers will no longer dictate,” said Erika Dizon-Go, Senior Vice President at UnionBank.Bank officials are optimistic of growth next year with the launch of new products and services such as joint account opening via online, GPay for Mastercard and Visa debit customers, cash-in everywhere service, and more.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/4/25/unionbank-records-100-percent-growth-in-credit-card-users-2049">UnionBank records 100 percent growth in credit card users</a></div>The bank will also launch RIA, its voice AI [artificial intelligence] customer service. With RIA, customers can call anytime and will no longer need to wait for a long time since RIA can answer quickly. Officials added customers can still opt to talk to a human customer service.“Her name is RIA- respondent intelligent agent. Very soon, calling our contact center will be a much more pleasant and convenient experience. No more long wait times, available 24/7,” said Rene Aguirre, Senior Vice President at UnionBank.Many other programs and services will also be launched and bank officials are optimistic they will reach over 20 million retail customers by the end of next year. This includes customers in lending, wealth, among others.
