Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File</span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said Wednesday it granted the request of ride-hailing companies to move the start of the surge pricing cap to Dec. 20.</p><p>The surge pricing cap was <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/12/16/sad-christmas-for-tnvs-drivers-over-surge-pricing-cut-group-1044">supposed to start on Dec. 17</a>, but LTFRB Chairperson Vigor D. Mendoza II said they heeded the request of Transport Network Companies (TNCs) for more time to prepare their system for the fare adjustment.</p><p>“We understand the concerns raised by the TNCs and on the part of the LTFRB. Madali din naman kaming kausap lalo na kung valid naman mga reasons na binigay,” Mendoza said in a press release.</p><p>“Additional time is necessary to complete the corresponding system configurations and operational adjustments to properly reflect the revised surge pricing cap, and to ensure adequate information dissemination to all affected drivers and other stakeholders on the combined effects of the said pricing adjustments,” he added. </p><p>The LTFRB earlier issued a memorandum circular No. setting a cap on surge pricing for Transport Network Vehicle Service (TNVS) operations following complaints from passengers on unreasonable fare increases ahead of Christmas and New Year. </p><p>Grab Philippines sought a postponement of the cap “for technology configuration.”</p><p>“This period is required to complete the system programming refinements needed for the accurate, consistent, and fully compliant application of the revised surge pricing cap on the platform,” it said in a letter to the LTFRB. </p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/12/14/ride-availability-may-weaken-amid-surge-pricing-cap-says-ride-hailing-firm-1548">Ride availability may ‘weaken’ amid surge pricing cap, says ride-hailing firm</a></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/12/12/ltfrb-to-penalize-unjustified-booking-cancellations-by-ride-hailing-drivers-0747">LTFRB to penalize unjustified booking cancellations by ride-hailing drivers</a></div><p>An initial LTFRB press release said the price surge cap would start on Dec. 19, but the agency later clarified in a memo that it would be implemented on Dec. 20. </p>
