<div> </div>MANILA — Consumers were more pessimistic in the last quarter of 2025, a new survey from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) showed.Based on the results of its latest Consumer Expectations Survey, the BSP said consumer confidence fell to -22.2 percent in the fourth quarter from -9.8 percent in the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/9/26/consumers-less-pessimistic-businesses-less-optimistic-in-third-quarter-1228" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">third quarter</a>.The BSP said consumer confidence fell because of <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/12/18/marcos-warrants-of-arrest-issued-vs-sarah-discaya-9-others-2017" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">graft and corruption</a> concerns, higher <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/12/5/inflation-slows-to-1-5-percent-in-november-0911" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">inflation</a>, lower household income, <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/11/12/rice-sector-suffered-most-agri-damage-from-tino-uwan-agri-dept-1625" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">bad weather</a>, and <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/regions/2025/10/13/magnitude-6-0-quake-shakes-cebu-0138" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">natural calamities</a>.Businesses, meanwhile, were more optimistic, with their confidence index climbing to 29.7 percent from 23.2 percent in the third quarter.Businesses said they are more confident because of holiday spending, higher firm productivity and efficiency, the launch of new products and services, and lower inflation.
