<p>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has directed the Department of Transportation to review proposals to adopt the PUV insurance system for private cars. </p><p>The measure aims to ensure that passengers of private vehicles involved in road crashes with public utility vehicles (PUVs) get fair benefits claims in cases of death and permanent disability.</p><p>The Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines earlier appealed to President Marcos Jr to adopt the proposal, as they noted that passengers of private motor vehicles are only entitled to a maximum of P200,000 in claims (which shall be divided among all victims) under the existing PUV insurance policy under the Passenger Personal Accident Insurance (PPAI). </p><p>This is a smaller amount compared to what PUV passengers are entitled to, which is a maximum of P400,000 each in case of death resulting from road crashes and P100,000 each in cases of injuries.</p><p>“Opo, pinag-utos na po ng Pangulo kay DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon na pag-aralan pong mabuti ang proposal tungkol sa higher insurance coverage para po sa PUVs.
