<p>MANILA (<strong>UPDATED</strong>) -- The license of the taxi driver who was caught on video overcharging a passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport would be revoked, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said on Monday.</p><p>The video that went viral on social media showed the driver allegedly charging the passenger P1,260 for a trip from NAIA Terminal 2 to Terminal 3. He is also seen to be using his phone to calculate the fare instead of a taxi meter.</p><p>When the passenger tried to haggle, he lowered the price to P1,100, which DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon said was still excessive.</p><p>The taxi unit is already impounded at the LTO headquarters.</p><p>Upon investigation, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) also found out that the provisional authority of the taxi company involved in the viral incident, Taxihub Transport, had expired back in March 2025.</p><p>This means its entire fleet of 15 taxi units are considered colorum.</p><p>&quot;Medyo malakas din ang loob nila no? Colorum na nga sila, nag-oovercharging pa. Yan ang problema pagka iniisip nila walang consequence o kaparusahan yung ginagawa nila. Well ngayon, mararamdaman niyo yung full force ng batas,&quot; said Dizon.</p><p>LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said the firm will be charged for violating the Public Service Act.</p><p>&quot;Inatasan ko na po ang aking Executive Director na kunin na po yung mga plaka ng mga taxi para hindi na po sila makabiyahe. Ngayon, kung ipagpipilitan pa rin nilang ipabiyahe yan, sisiguraduhin po naming mai-impound yung mga taxing yan,&quot; he said.</p><p>A show cause order has also been issued against the firm.</p><p>&quot;Lilitisin po namin yan within the week… Papupuntahin namin sa LTFRB para magpaliwanag. Kung hindi kami kuntento sa paliwanag, yung suspension niyan mae-extend for a very very long time,&quot; added Guadiz.</p><p>Meanwhile, in a statement, Taxihub apologized to the affected passenger and promised to issue a full refund. </p><p>&quot;We are deeply disheartened by this incident and are actively trying to reach the passenger involved to offer a full refund and personal apology… We are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and are taking all necessary steps to ensure due process and accountability,&quot; it said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>CRACKDOWN ON ERRING TAXI DRIVERS, OPERATORS</strong></div><p>Moving forward, Dizon said he has ordered the LTFRB and LTO to coordinate with the police, airport authorities, and other major transport terminals to clamp down on abusive taxi drivers and operators.</p><p>&quot;Kailangan talaga nating i-crackdown dito ay yung mga taxi na hindi sumusunod sa cap, sa price ceiling… Kailangan matuto po kayong lahat— kayong mga operator, driver. Mawawalan kayo ng hanapbuhay pagka tinuloy-tuloy niyo ito,&quot; he said.</p><p>He added that the DOTr will work with the private operator of NAIA, San Miguel Corporation, in providing more public transport options especially for those transferring from one terminal to another.</p><p>&quot;Yung mga point-to-point, pwede yan. We will talk to NNIC (New NAIA Infra Corp.), yung operator natin ng airport.
