MANILA — The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation should suspend toll collection in its Marilao northbound segment, after the Marilao Bridge was struck again by an overheight container truck on Wednesday, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

According to the Marilao police, a trailer truck and an AUV were travelling northbound when the truck's container struck the beam of the bridge. The beam fell and hit the rear portion of AUV. The impact killed the 54-year-old man seated at the back of the vehicle.

The DOTr said NLEX Corporation was instructed to provide assistance to the bereaved family, as the passengers of the AUV were relatives supposedly going to Baguio.

It is a shared responsibility to protect lives, prevent accidents, and ensure that public infrastructure remains safe and functional,” it also said.

The truck driver is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.

A similar incident happened in the area in March. A truck also struck Marilao Interchange Bridge which caused heavy traffic that motorists had to endure for days.

DOTr is asking motorists and commuters to understand the situation. It said the agency is fast-tracking the repair of the damaged infrastructure to reduce the heavy traffic in the area.
