<div> </div>MANILA — The Philippine government on Friday said it is preparing fuel subsidies and other aid in case tensions in the Middle East cause problems for the economy. Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon of the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev) the tension between Israel and Iran could lead to a spike in fuel prices. &quot;Nakahanda na rin naman po iyong ating programa tungkol sa fuel subsidy natin; at iba pa pong puwedeng maging assistance para to make sure na maibsan natin ang negative impact nito especially on inflation,&quot; Edillon said in an interview with Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon on June 27. She added that the country’s inflation rate is currently expected to stabilize between 2 and 3 percent this year, still within the government&#x27;s target range, despite recent weeks of rising fuel prices. &quot;Dati kasi nasa between two and four percent pero nakita naman natin kung gaano iyong naging pagbaba nitong mga nakaraang buwan. Tapos, hopefully naman iyong iba pang mga commodities natin magtuluy-tuloy pa rin iyong pag-stabilize ng market,&quot; she said. She said that if the situation in the Middle East stabilizes, oil prices may go down again, which would be good for the country&#x27;s inflation rate.When asked if the government is still on track to meet its growth target for the year, Edillon said the administration has adjusted its growth target between 5.5 and 6.5.&quot;So, ang gusto namin mangyari is mayroon tayong kaunting allowance para mas madali tayong makagalaw, maka-respond in case of any eventuality na siyempre patuloy nating pinapanalangin na hindi naman mangyari,&quot; she added. Edillon also urged the public to stay informed and make prudent decisions to help minimize the impact of inflation on their daily lives.&quot;Itong tungkol sa pagtaas ng presyo ng gas, ang sinasabi nga po namin is planuhin ng maayos iyong paggamit ng sasakyan, paglabas natin,&quot; she added.
