Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News </div>MANILA (UPDATE) — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will look into the economic implications of the proposed P200 minimum wage increase, Malacanang said shortly after the House of Representatives passed on third and final reading a measure seeking to raise the minimum wage for the private sector.In studying the proposed measure, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said that the President will get the opinion of all stakeholders, including wage boards. “We will look at the economic implications on this and how to resolve this with the opinion of the wage boards, since the wage boards are the creations of Congress,” Castro said in a Palace briefing. “Nais ng Pangulo na maibigay kung ano ang makakabuti sa mga manggagawang Pilipino. Titingnan lahat ng aspeto nito at ang concerns ng lahat ng stakeholders.” In his speech during Labor Day, Marcos noted the need for a careful study of the proposal, citing its impact to businesses and the economy. He however assured that government is hearing the calls of Filipino workers for higher wages, saying that their concerns are being addressed through regional wage boards across the country. During his meeting with labor leaders earlier this week, Marcos assured that his government is committed to ensuring the welfare of Filipino workers.“Nakausap ko ang ating mga labor leaders para tiyakin na mananatiling protektado ang karapatan at kapakanan ng ating mga manggagawa,” Marcos Jr said in a social media post.“Patuloy ang suporta ng gobyerno sa bukas at makabuluhang usapan tungo sa trabahong may dignidad, sahod na sapat, at kinabukasang may pag-asa para sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino.”<div> </div><div>SOLONS OPTIMISTIC ON BICAM </div>At least two members of the bicameral conference committee for the wage hike bills are optimistic the House and the Senate can agree on an amount and get the bicam report ratified before they adjourn sine die next week.The Senate proposed a P100 increase to the daily minimum wage while the House proposed double that.“Ang gusto natin ultimately, makinabang ang manggagawa. Yung amount, pag usapan natin, walang problema. Kapag nagkaisa, mabilis na lang ‘yun eh,” Gabriela Women&#x27;s Party Rep. Arlene Brosas said.(What we want, ultimately, is for workers to benefit. We can discuss the amount and if we agree, then things will go quickly)“We call on the Senate, although busy sila sa other things. Raymond Democrito Mendoza told DZMM Teleradyo. House OKs bill for P200 hike in daily wage on third and final readingThey also called on President Marcos to respect the decision of Congress once the bill reaches his table for signature. Brosas said workers need the increase, which she also called a timely reprieve to high prices.“Kung napagbibigyan ang mga malalaking kumpanya at mga impresa, binibigyan mo ng mga iba&#x27;t ibang mga tax breaks, at iba pang mga… incentives, bakit ito hindi natin magawa?” Brosas said.(If big companies and enterprises can be given tax breaks and other incentives, why not this?)<div>OTHER VOICES</div>The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry is opposing the proposed wage hike saying this would mean &quot;higher labor costs, consequently resulting to higher costs of goods and services, and inflation&quot; and would affect businesses in lower-income regions.Economic think tank IBON Foundation meanwhile said that &quot;even if granted across the board, the wage increase is just a small portion of company profits,&quot; adding government support can help smaller businesses comply.Last April, Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said lawmakers should look at the possible impact of wage hikes on &quot;all sectors&quot; before implementing changes.According to Balisacan, higher wages are something he wants, but they may increase the cost of production.<div><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MhGnJP0DxXQ?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> </div>
