MANILA -- The PNP Aviation Security Group (AVSEGROUP) has beefed up its operations against overcharging taxi at various airports across the country.This comes weeks after a taxi driver went viral for charging P1,600 for a ride from one terminal of Ninoy Aquino International Airport to another. AVSEGROUP Director PBGen Jason Capoy said that in the first week of operations which began June 25, 2025, 46 vehicles were apprehended. These included 28 taxis, 7 UV Express vans, and 11 motorcycles used to transport passengers. <div><a class="fr-green" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2025/6/24/viral-overcharging-taxi-in-naia-to-face-charges-for-operating-unregistered-1349">Viral overcharging taxi in NAIA to face charges for operating unregistered</a></div>These vehicles were apprehended at NAIA, as well as at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Davao International Airport, and General Santos International Airport. “We’re operating based on a complaint and we have prior information na itong taxi ito na nangongontrata talaga. Nagpasalamat ako sa mga barker at mga kapwa taxi driver na nagsusumbong sa amin,” said Capoy. Capoy added that he himself had been a victim of overcharging by a taxi driver. He assured that they will continue to intensify their operations against abusive public utility drivers at the airports in the country. “Maging patas na po tayo sa paghatid serbisyo lalu na sa arriving OFWs, kakabayan at kapwa Pilipino rin natin yan,” he added. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has inspected NAIA and asked NAIA management to add bigger and clearer signages leading to the free inter-terminal shuttle. He hopes NNIC can send a revised taxi system soon so not only passengers will be protected, but also the legitimate and honest taxi drivers.
