MANILA — Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said San Miguel Corporation has committed to addressing concerns over the floods allegedly caused by some of its projects, including the MRT-7 along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City. This was after the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said that the construction of the MRT-7 has worsened flooding in the area. The MMDA earlier informed the DOTR that the railway&#x27;s contractors had obstructed the flow of water into a major drainage system along Commonwealth Avenue.“Nakita po natin na iyong isa pong major drainage system sa Commonwealth Avenue ay naharangan po ng isang poste. Halos 1/3 na lang po yata or 1/4 ang gumagana doon sa drainage system po na iyon, dahil nabarahan po ng isang poste,” said MMDA Chairman Don Artes said in a press briefing.“Ganundin po iyong mga lagusan ng tubig, mula sa kalsada papasok po sa drainage system, may mga ganoon po na nabarahan na rin po ng construction  materials,” he continued.Dizon said that San Miguel has assured them that they are addressing the situation.“Ang San Miguel Corporation po na in-charge sa construction ng MRT-7, at sila rin po ang gumawa ng Skyway, ay dinulog na po nila ang mga panawagan na ayusin itong mga nakakadagdag sa pagbaha dahil sa mga bara sa mga drainage o sa pagbagsak ng tubig mula sa Skyway. Binibilisan na po nila ang pag-address dito sa mga problemang ito ngayong araw at tuluy-tuloy po iyan hangga’t ma-address ito,” he said.<div>SAN MIGUEL DENIES ALLEGATION</div>San Miguel Corporation, meanwhile, denied that the construction of the MRT-7 is the cause of the flooding along Commonwealth Avenue.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/weather-traffic/2025/7/16/mrt-7-construction-a-factor-in-flooding-in-commonwealth-mmda-1833" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">MRT-7 construction a factor in flooding in Commonwealth: MMDA</a></div>&quot;All MRT-7 structures in the area, including columns and footings, were built outside existing drainage lines and do not obstruct the natural flow of water,&quot; San Miguel said. &quot;These were constructed with full consideration of the drainage layout and in compliance with approved engineering plans,&quot; they added.The company noted that while construction during earlier phases of the project did affect a section of the drainage system, this was coordinated with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).&quot;The affected segment was restored upon completion, and on March 3, 2025, the DPWH Quezon City 1st District Engineering Office certified that the drainage was &#x27;100 percent completely restored in accordance with standard plans and specifications,&#x27;&quot;the firm said.The company also noted that after the last flooding, MRT-7 engineers inspected the area and found the drainage outlet to be heavily clogged with plastic waste and debris, reducing its capacity to carry rainwater.It also noted that the MRT-7 management asked the MMDA and DPWH for documentation that might indicate obstructions caused by the project. San Miguel noted, however, that it has yet to receive any such files today.&quot;Flooding in Metro Manila is a longstanding and complex issue, often rooted in poor waste disposal and inadequate maintenance of drainage systems,&quot; San Miguel said. &quot;MRT-7 (Project Management Office) believes it’s important to approach the matter with a common understanding and a focus on long-term solutions.&quot;
