Flood control funds should be given to DPWH not politicians: Senator

MANILA — Senator Erwin Tulfo has urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday to reallocate flood control funds from politicians to the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Tulfo said this will help improve the management of flood control projects, as politicians are unable to properly implement them.

"Ang daming nailabas na pondo. Unfortunately, mga politiko ang nag-iimplement, which is not tama. Kasi alam naman natin, 'pag politiko nag-implement, 'di naman na-implement na maayos. So, kailangan siguro talaga DPWH ang mag-implement yan," he said.

Tulfo is eyeing to investigate the disbursement of flood control funds, as he believes the persistent flooding problem can be attributed to small and clogged waterways.

He said the Philippines has small drainage systems and lacks spillways to release excess water from a reservoir or dam. Tulfo said he hopes Marcos can prioritize it.

"Sana siguro this panahon ni PBBM [President Bongbong Marcos]. I heard him talk about it na magkaroon ng master plan. That's what we need. DPWH should be the one to implement this, not politicians," he added.
