Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA — The actual rehabilitation of the Guadalupe Bridge in Makati may be pushed back further to 2027, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).It was initially <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/8/29/partial-closure-of-guadalupe-bridge-to-start-october-2025-1844">supposed to start during the latter part of 2025.</a>DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said delaying the rehabilitation would prevent further disruption during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit next year, which the <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/09/05/23/philippines-to-host-asean-summit-in-2026-marcos-jr">Philippines would host.</a>“Baka kako sa 2027 na p kukumpunihin yung dapat naming gawin sa Guadalupe Bridge para hindi po maistorbo yung traffic during the ASEAN summit,” he told the media at the sidelines of the 2025 post-SONA discussions in San Juan City.But Bonoan said the construction of detour bridges for motorists could  already begin this year.“Ang gagawin po namin dito, itong taon na ito, gagawin namin yung detour bridges doon sa tabi ng existing Guadalupe bridge… Dalawa yung detour bridges na gagawin namin, northbound at tsaka southbound,” he said.Only when these are completed will the DPWH begin retrofitting the Guadalupe bridge.Bonoan reiterated that there won’t be a total closure of the bridge even during construction.“Hindi po namin isasara nang todo-todo ang Guadalupe bridge, ang kukumpunihin lang namin is yung mga outer structures po nito. Papalitan po namin yung mga outer structures nang mas matibay,” he said.<div> </div>
