Handout/PCO</div>MANILA -- The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) on Tuesday submitted to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. the 2026 National Expenditure Program (NEP) which outlines the proposed P6.79-trillion budget for next year.The 2026 NEP is 7.4 percent higher than this year’s budget,  according to information from Malacañang.The proposed budget is anchored on a so-called “Agenda for Prosperity” which seeks to fund programs geared at “nurturing future-ready generations to achieve the full potential of the nation.”In his fourth State of the Nation Address, Marcos Jr. warned lawmakers against insertions in next year’s budget, saying that he would not sign a fresh spending bill if it is ‘not duly aligned with the National Expenditure Program.”“Hindi ko aaprubahan ang kahit anong budget na hindi alinsunod sa programa ng gobyerno para sa sambayanang Pilipino,” the President earlier said.The DBM is expected to formally submit the NEP to Congress on August 13, which signals the start of the legislative branch’s annual review of the proposed national budget.
