<p>MANILA -- Farmers are now included in the list of beneficiaries of the government&#x27;s P20 per kilo rice program.</p><p>The Department of Agriculture launched this in a ceremonial program in their NFA warehouse in Balagtas, Bulacan on Wednesday, August 13.</p><p>Agriculture Assistant Secretary Genevieve Guevarra said the program aims to benefit poor farmers, specifically those who own just 2 hectares or less, farm workers and those who don&#x27;t have their own land.</p><p>Farmers have to be registered in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) to avail the subsidized rice.</p><p>Some farmers said that while they keep some of their harvest for their families, it&#x27;s usually not enough for their daily consumption needs.</p><p>&quot;Di sumasapat ang ani sa taas din ng bilihin ng mga pataba at saka fertilizer tapos bumaba rin presyo ng palay rin. Yung makatabi kami 3 kaban, di yun sumasapat gaya ako 6 anak ko,&quot; said Adelaida Vedis, a rice farmer.</p><p>(The harvest is not enough as the input is too costly and palay prices are down. Sometimes we only keep 3 cavans, which is not enough for my family.)</p><p>&quot;Meron pong naitatabi pero sa ngayon paubos na yung naitatabi kasi kapag kami umaani nagpapagiling ng bigas, nagbibigay din kami sa kamag anak namin,&quot; said Lyra Doctora, another rice farmer.</p><p>(Yes, we stock, but we also give some rice to our families.)</p><p>The Department of Agriculture said farmers of other crops, and fishermen will also soon be included in the program.
