Jekki Pascual, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA — Digital bank and e-wallet platform Maya has launched its credit card, Maya Black, which is aimed to democratize access to premium financial tools for Filipinos.Maya Group President and Maya Bank Co-Founder Shailesh Baidwan is confident of growth in the credit card business, especially with only 15 percent of Filipinos having a credit card. He said the credit card unit can help the group sustain its profitability further.“With a compelling product, with the tech capabilities that we have and a backend driven by our AI engines around the whole credit scoring and credit management, we should be able to scale up instantly well and quickly,” he said.Maya officials said the card is secured with no card number, expiry date, or CVV printed on the card. The CVV can be seen on the app and it changes every 24 hours to ensure no one can just copy the number.It also has a rewards program called Maya Black Preferred, and miles can be earned every time one uses the card. Cardholders also get access to airport lounges via DragonPass.“You can pay with your miles for your shopping and dining experiences… You get international lounge access for almost all airports in the whole world,” said Mags Surtida, Head of Credit Cards Business of Maya.Surtiga added that if one uses the card at least once a month, then there will be no annual fee. “No annual fees ever. We don’t want you to call us and ask it to be waived. We don’t want you to call us and threaten us you will cancel your card,” Surtida said in jest.Celebrities Julia Barretto, Maris Racal, and Jericho Rosales also graced the launch event, where they were also announced as the company’s newest endorsers.During Maya Black’s soft launch in May 2025, the number of cardholders has already reached 40,000, indicating a strong demand for such product. Baidwan said they aim to make it easier for every Filipino to apply for a credit card.If one is still building his or her credit and has no credit history, they can still apply for a credit card and get instant approval. This is under the Maya Black Express, where you enjoy same benefits with opening an Express Deposit and the app will set the credit limit based on your deposit.
