MANILA — Real estate firm FilInvest has tapped renewable energy to power 11 of its properties, as it gears towards providing cleaner and more reliable energy sources. In a statement, FilInvest said their firm, through the FDC Retail Electricity Sales Corporation, enrolled its properties under the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP) and the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP). RAP helps individuals to combine energy requirements “and collectively contract power from a licensed Retail Electricity Supplier” to make renewable energy within reach to small businesses. GEOP, FilInvest explained in a release, helps consumers (that have an average monthly demand of over 100kW) to get their energy from renewable energy suppliers. “This enables businesses to reduce their carbon footprint while exercising greater choice and control over their electricity supply,” based on the statement. FDC RES President Roderick Fernandez said under the retail aggregation program, 4 of their facilities have so far aggregated more than 1,000kW of demand since these were onboarded. “[This enables] them to unlock the benefits of market-based electricity rates. This is Filinvest&#x27;s first switch under the expanded RAP,&quot; said Fernandez.The firm said of their 7 facilities shifted to renewable energy under the GEOP. This has a total contracted demand of 2,000kW. “The ERC has been actively promoting the implementation of GEOP and RAP to enhance competition and empower consumers, and accelerate the country&#x27;s transition to renewable energy,” it said in a statement. “By pushing for these mechanisms, the ERC ensures that both large and small consumers have viable pathways to access clean energy,” it added. According to the Filinvest REIT Corp. (FILRT), 16 out of 17 buildings under its Grade A office portfolio have already adopted renewable energy under the GEOP, as the firm continues to integrate sustainability.
