MANILA -- The Department of Transportation assured that it is ready for the anticipated effects of Severe Tropical Storm ‘Opong’.Transporation Secretary Giovanni Lopez said transport agencies are preparing for the incoming storm especially the Philippine Ports Authority, Philippine Coast Guard and Maritime Industry Authority.Water and air assets are also on standby, according to Lopez. “Every time po na mayroong parating na bagyo mayroon na pong sistema ‘yang DOTR diyan. Ang PPA nagre-report na po siya kung ano ‘yung mga tamang gawin,” he said in an interview with state-run media PTV Thursday, September 25.“Masasabi ko naman po na nakahanda kami at ang una naming talagang binabantayan ‘yung tinatawag nating critical infrastructure tulad ng ating paliparan, pantalan at ‘yung Coast Guard natin naka-deploy parati,” Lopez added. 2GO also said the following sea trips have been cancelled as a precaution against the possible impact of seere tropical storm Ompong:MV St. Francis Xavier – Manila – Iloilo – Bacolod MV 2GO Masikap – Manila – Cebu MV 2GO Masigla – Manila – Coron – Puerto Princesa MV 2GO Masinag – Manila – General Santos – Davao – CebuThe DOTr chief added, he instructed the transport agencies to initiate extending help to passengers who might get stranded. “Inatasan po natin ang CAAP na from now on, kapag may ganyang sitwasyon may nai-stranded, kailangan magkusang loob na po ang CAAP, ang airport authorities, ang gobyerno to take care of the passengers,” he stated.“Alam po namin ang may obligasyon diyan ay ‘yung airlines. Kasama ‘yan sa air passenger rights po nila. Pero hindi naman po masama na may tulong din po ang gobyerno,” Lopez noted.
