<div> </div>MANILA — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said Friday its crews remain on full alert and are working around the clock to restore electricity to thousands of customers affected by Severe Tropical Storm Opong, internationally known as Bualoi.“We continue to be on full alert while our people on the ground work non-stop to restore electricity service in areas affected by power interruptions due to the storm,” said Joe  Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.As of noon, around 8,900 customers were still without power, mostly in Quezon, Laguna, and Cavite provinces. The storm brought heavy rains and flooding, disrupting service and prompting safety warnings.Meralco urged residents in flooded areas to follow electrical safety guidelines. These include switching off the main power breaker, avoiding wet appliances and outlets, unplugging devices, and cleaning equipment with rubber gloves and rubber-soled shoes. Customers are also advised to ensure all electrical components are dry before use and to have a licensed electrician inspect systems before reconnecting.The company emphasized the importance of avoiding flood-damaged electrical equipment until cleared by professionals.Meralco advised customers to report outages or seek assistance via its Facebook page, Twitter (@meralco), text 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or call the Meralco Hotline at 16211.Storm Opong swept through parts of Luzon earlier this week, leaving communities in its wake grappling with cleanup and recovery efforts amid continued weather advisories.
