MANILA - Filipinos are buying 5,000 smartphones a day, according to a report by consumer financing company, Home Credit Philippines (HCPH). That figure is just for mobile phone purchases made through HCPH&#x27;s installment schemes.  Smartphones, particularly the iPhone, remain the leading product purchased by Filipino consumers in 2024 through HCPH, which financed 2.4 million phones for the year, making smartphones a significant contributor to annual revenues. &quot;This is something that Filipinos really love to have not only because its a social currency but because it is great to be seen with a well-designed device,&quot; says HCPH Chief Marketing Officer Sheila Paul.<div> <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2025/8/1/here-s-why-compact-phones-are-making-a-comeback-1021">Here&#x27;s why compact phones are making a comeback</a></div> HCPH sees a steady growth in demand for smartphones this year, with sales projections expected to double to P20 billion from installment purchases. According to Paul, improvements in telecommunications infrastructure and better connectivity in the provinces can drive demand for smartphones, tablets and laptops this year and next The rise in content creation is also contributing to the burgeoning demand for devices that offer not just connectivity, but a good camera with functionalities that make content production and sharing easier. &quot;It has really become an essential tool for Filipinos to be able to access the internet for services like digital banking, payments, education and livelihood. A lot of things are happening on the mobile phone and being able to provide this in the hands of every Filipino is something that Home Credit is really proud of,&quot; Paul said. <div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/lifestyle/2025/8/15/flexible-easy-way-to-own-gadgets-for-school-1345">Flexible, easy way to own gadgets for school </a></div> HCPH says it supports the government&#x27;s mission to promote entrepreneurship, financial literacy and inclusion by offering installment schemes that make smartphones easier to acquire. This enables many consumers, particularly those that have no existing credit history, to begin their lending journey and become responsible borrowers. &quot;A lot of our customers are first time borrowers, it&#x27;s their first experience with credit and we actually give an opportunity for people to prove that they have a good paying behavior and they are able to pay on their due date,&quot; Paul added. Aside from smartphones, appliances such as air-conditioning and refrigerators as well as motorcycles are among the top buys for Filipino consumers.
