MANILA — E-commerce platform Lazada has achieved positive EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization) thanks to its continuous investment in artificial intelligence (AI), a company official said.Speaking with ABS-CBN News, Lazada Philippines Head of User and Product Operations Pauline Castro said the company has also achieved stable gross merchandise value (GMV), quoting data from Momentum Works&#x27; e-Commerce in Southeast Asia 2025 report.<div> </div><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1757318029460Lazzie.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/>A screenshot with a user&#x27;s conversation with Lazzie, Lazada&#x27;s AI chatbot. </div>“By leveraging AI, we&#x27;ve actually increased efficiency for sellers, and it has improved our understanding right across our business, from sales performance and analytics to logistics and supply chain management,” Castro said. The executive said the company is now committed to training its employees so they can work effectively with AI.Castro said 46 percent of their sellers are already using the platform’s AI tools, with 2 out of every 3 of them strongly satisfied with the technology. She noted, however, that there is more room for AI growth in the Philippines.“What we do see is that the adoption rate of AI is still very low at 19 percent. So, we see this as a signal of an untapped market, right?”Castro said the low AI adoption rate is because of digital infrastructure limitations in the Philippines, and low internal buy-in of employees &quot;who often still want to stick to familiar and manual processes.”“What we&#x27;re trying to bridge today is the significant gap right between consumer and seller AI adoption, because what we see…consumers, 90 percent of them already use AI for product discovery,” she stressed.Castro said they now have an AI smart production optimization tool for sellers, which helps entrepreneurs improve titles, descriptions, or photos of their products so they can sell more of these.For consumers, meanwhile, Lazada has an AI chatbot called Lazzie, which helps study customers&#x27; browsing activity, purchase behavior, and history to help recommend better products.Lazada said AI Lazzie&#x27;s contribution to sales more than tripled during this year’s 6.6 sale, as compared to its contribution during the Christmas sale last year.
