MANILA -- Serg&#x27;s, a beloved Filipino chocolate brand, said it aims to make a comeback this year.On its official Faceboook account, Serg&#x27;s said that 2026 will be its &quot;restart year&quot; after disappearing from store shelves for several years.Serg&#x27;s was originally supposed to resume production in 2019, according to a report published that year. The company, however, said it had to hold this off after the COVID-19 pandemic made business difficult, and after Supertyphoon Carina in 2024 caused floods that affected its warehouse, where machinery was kept.&quot;Add a few uncertainties that forced us to rethink the plan—but 2026 will be our restart year,&quot; the company said on its social media page.Established in 1954, Serg&#x27;s became a household name for many baby boomers who grew up in the 60s and 70s. Even older Millennials still got to taste its iconic chocolate bars, and its candies such as Moonbits, egg-shaped Egg Chocolate, and Football Chocolate, among others, in the late 90s and early 2000s.The company, however, faced several challenges during its lifetime, the most serious of which was the Asian financial crisis in 1998, which led to its bankruptcy a few years later. Because of this, Serg&#x27;s iconic chocolates stopped appearing in groceries and sari-sari stores.&quot;We’re starting small - Serg’s Chocolate Bars - back where it all began in 1954 on Cordillera St., Quezon City,&quot; the company said on its comeback plans. It added that it would share more details about its plan and the progress of its return to business in the first quarter of this year.The brand also asked for help from its fans, and urged them to share the company&#x27;s <a href="https://www.facebook.com/sergsbrands" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Facebook</a> and Instagram pages and share stories and memories with the younger generation about Serg&#x27;s Chocolates.&quot;If everything goes well, we are hoping Serg’s in 2026 (Q3).&quot;The Philippine chocolate market is currently dominated by big local food manufacturers like Comfoods, Delfi, Rebisco, Universal Robina, as well as international players like Hershey&#x27;s and Nestlé.
