<div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1770950577964Screen Shot 2026-02-13 at 10.41.56 AM_cropped_processed_by_imagy.webp" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday led the groundbreaking for the Kalayaan Avenue and BGC stations of the Metro Manila Subway Project. </div>MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday led the groundbreaking ceremony to kick off the construction of the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP) - Kalayaan Avenue and BGC Stations.In his speech during the event, Marcos said the MMSP-BGC station is projected to serve more than 200,000 passengers per day. He added that once the entire 33-kilometer stretch of the MMSP is fully operational, the travel time from Valenzuela to BGC will be reduced from 1.5 hours to just 29 minutes. Moreover, he said the project will make it possible for travel time from Quezon City to the Manila Airport to be shortened from more than an hour to just 35 minutes. “Some students hesitate to enroll in their dream school because the commute will take 2 hours or more. Others decline promising job offers because the cost of commuting to work will outweigh the salary and mean less time for family. And this is not the kind of future that we want for our Philippines,” he said. Marcos said he is hopeful the project will restore dignity to daily travel. He added that the subway project is “very much on schedule.” This comes after Northern Samar 2nd District Rep. Edwin Ongchuan said during a House budget meeting that the project is expected to be finished in 2032, instead of its original completion target of 2027. The President was joined by Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines Kazuya Endo and Acting Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez during the ceremony. The P488 billion required for the subway project was financed through a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Earlier this month, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) said it has signed an agreement with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) granting right-of-way access for three planned subway stations in <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/2/5/bcda-dotr-seal-deal-for-bgc-subway-stations-right-of-way-1802" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bonifacio Global City (BGC).</a><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/2/3/demo-run-of-metro-manila-subway-set-on-2028-full-operations-by-2033-1702" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Demo run of Metro Manila Subway set on 2028, full operations by 2033</a></div>
