MANILA – Fintech firm Tala said on Friday that it has entered into a $100 million partnership with ASEAN banking giant CIMB to launch its credit services in Vietnam, after growing in the Philippines.The company, which uses AI to provide instant credit scoring and disbursement, said it aims to bridge the gap for millions of Vietnamese who have digital accounts but lack access to traditional credit.“We’re proud to partner with CIMB, one of the most respected banks in Vietnam, to provide safe, affordable credit to many people who don’t have access,” said Shivani Siroya, CEO and Founder of Tala. “Tala’s state-of-the-art proprietary technology combined with award-winning customer service makes us uniquely qualified to meet the financial needs of underserved Vietnamese.”The expansion follows Tala’s rapid growth in the Philippines, where it has served 4.5 million customers and disbursed approximately P137 billion since 2017.In Vietnam, the partnership will offer a flexible digital credit line of up to 30 million VND ($1,200). Steven Truong, General Manager of Tala Vietnam, noted that the move targets the &quot;frustration and struggles&quot; of locals facing a lack of viable credit options.CIMB Vietnam’s head of partnership, Le Hien Trang, said the collaboration would allow customers to &quot;proactively and easily achieve their personal financial goals&quot; through a fully digitized process.Tala has disbursed over $7 billion globally over the last decade, with Vietnam marking its latest push into the high-growth Southeast Asian corridor.
