MANILA – The Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) has elected UnionBank President and CEO Ana Aboitiz Delgado as its President for the 2026–2027 term, marking the first time a woman will lead the influential body in its nearly 80-year history.BAP said Delgado has steered UnionBank since January 2025. She takes the helm of the country’s primary banking advocacy group at a time of rapid technological disruption and heightened geopolitical risk. Her career has been defined by two decades of spearheading digital transformation and consumer finance within the Philippine banking sector.&quot;As we accelerate digitalization and unlock the potential of AI, we also face a next generation of risks that extend beyond individual institutions and national borders,&quot; Delgado said in a statement following her election. She emphasized that the BAP’s priority will be deepening industry collaboration to ensure &quot;trust in the financial system is not only preserved, but strengthened.&quot;The BAP, which represents the nation’s universal and commercial banks, remains a critical mediator between the private sector and the central bank. UnionBank is seen one of the first banks to recognize the significance of digitalization. It earlier said it added 2 million new customers last year, and was expecting total customers to reach 20 million this year.
