MANILA -- Roblox is introducing two new features to provide greater protection to children using the app.In a joint statement with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Roblox said it will check the ages of all children before allowing them access to any games. Children below 9 years old will have a Roblox Kids account. Chat will be off by default for this type of account.Those aged 9 to 15, meanwhile, will be in a Roblox Select account. Their chats are filtered--they can only speak with users of similar ages and Trusted Friends.On top of this, Roblox will also be expanding its parental controls, letting parents block specific games and manage all chats for children aged 9-15.The DICT and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) both welcomed Roblox&#x27;s move.“Because of the green lane that Roblox granted to the CICC and the PNP, parents and guardians can now report any Roblox concerns to our Hotline 1326, particularly the cases involving harmful contents and encounters with threat actors within the platform,&quot; said CICC Undersecretary Aboy Paraiso.  Last week, Roblox <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2026/4/7/roblox-meets-with-dict-on-fight-vs-child-sexual-abuse-1526" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">met</a> with DICT to discuss the issues the platform is facing regarding the protection of children.The DICT had earlier <a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2026/3/31/roblox-warned-fix-child-safety-issues-or-face-ph-ban-1904" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">warned</a> that Roblox could face suspension or a ban in the Philippines if it fails to directly engage with government regulators and address mounting child safety concerns linked to the platform.
