<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:960px;display:block" width="960"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/177632016375020250430-boracay-visitors-tourism-MD-1725.jpg" style="width:960px" class="fr-fic fr-dib" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Visitors flock to Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan. <em>Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span>MANILA — A transmission project expected to help address electricity problems in the country&#x27;s prime tourist destination Boracay and other areas in Aklan is set to be completed in August this year, the Department of Energy said Thursday.</div><p>The DOE and other power and transmission agencies inspected the P5.27‑billion Nabas‑Caticlan‑Boracay Transmission Line Project (NCBTLP) on Tuesday, the agency said in a statement.</p><p>The project is now 93.16 percent completed and will soon secure a more reliable and resilient power supply for Aklan, particularly Boracay Island, it said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/4/15/power-grid-yellow-red-alert-unlikely-until-june-ngcp-1907">Power grid yellow, red alert unlikely until June: NGCP</a></div><p>DOE Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara, in the statement, said the agency is already fast‑tracking the completion of the project, noting that reliable power is fundamental to economic growth and the continued development of Boracay and the rest of Aklan.</p><div><strong></strong></div><p>Aside from addressing rising electricity demand in Aklan, the project could encourage energy investors to develop renewable energy plants in the province, the DOE said.</p><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2026/4/16/regulators-urged-to-suspend-power-disconnections-stagger-payments-1415">Regulators urged to suspend power disconnections, stagger payments</a></div><p>It added that infrastructure of this scale is also vital to advancing the national objectives of the energy sector.</p><p><strong></strong>The project is expected to benefit approximately 155,474 residential, 13,388 commercial, and 27 industrial customers, according to the agency.</p>
