Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File" width="960"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Vice President Sara Duterte announces her intention to run for the presidency in the 2028 national elections during a press conference at the Office of the Vice President (OVP) headquarters in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has ordered the conduct of tax audits on Vice President Sara Duterte, her husband Manases Carpio and nine businesses connected to them.</p><p>In a statement, BIR said it has ordered the issuance of Letters of Authority (LOAs) to conduct tax audits on Duterte, Carpio and nine of their businesses, after BIR&#x27;s careful determination that probable cause exists to warrant a formal audit investigation on the couple.</p><p>The BIR based its decision on publicly available and official sources, as well as testimony from the Office of the Ombudsman regarding Duterte&#x27;s Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs). Reports from the  Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) that were disclosed during the investigation of the House of Representatives were also taken into account.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/nation/2026/4/22/amlc-reports-33-suspicious-bank-transactions-under-sara-duterte-husband-1431">READ: AMLC flags P6.7-B &#x27;suspicious, covered&#x27; transactions linked to Sara Duterte, husband</a></div><div><strong>The following businesses are subject to audit:</strong></div><ul><li>Carpio Lawyers (Formerly Carpio &amp; Duterte Lawyers </li><li>Zelta Matiem Salon </li><li>City Hall King Chow Foods Corporation </li><li>Davao Bounty Times Foods Corporation </li><li>Madayaw Fisheries Inc. </li><li>Davao Emerging Taipans Corporation </li><li>Amianan Shores, Inc. </li><li>Cale88 Foods Corporation </li><li>Geometry Security and Investigation Agency, Inc.</li><li><br/></li></ul><p>BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza said the issuance of the LOA is an instrument to initiate formal tax audits, and is not a conclusion of liability.</p><p>Atty. Peter Danao, Carpio&#x27;s legal counsel, said they will wait to receive the LOA before making an official statement. </p><p>The AMLC earlier revealed during the House clarificatory hearing on the impeachment complaint against the vice president that it received reports of &quot;suspicious&quot; and &quot;covered&quot; bank transactions amounting to P6.77 billion linked to Duterte and Carpio during a period of nearly two decades.</p><p>Of the amount, P4.425 billion entered their bank accounts while P1.554 billion was released from their accounts.
