MANILA – SM Investments Corp (SM) on Wednesday reported a 7 percent rise in first-quarter net income to P21.5 billion, boosted by resilient consumer spending despite inflationary pressures.  The Sy-led conglomerate said it is also increasing dividend payments by 31 percent.The group, which holds dominant positions in retail, banking, and property, saw consolidated revenues climb 5 percent to P159.4 billion for the January-to-March period.  &quot;The first quarter continued to deliver good results for us, especially in retail. We are aware of external challenges and will endeavor to maintain our performance by being disciplined on costs and focused on meeting consumer needs even when their spending is constrained,&quot; said Frederic DyBuncio, President and CEO of SM Investments.  Banking remained the largest contributor to the group&#x27;s bottom line, accounting for 49 percent of earnings. Property followed at 28 percent, while retail contributed 15 percent.  The retail segment saw a 13 percent jump in net profit to P4.1 billion, fueled by seasonal demand in department stores and non-food items, including graduation-related spending. Portfolio investments, including logistics firm 2GO Group and Atlas Consolidated Mining, contributed the remaining 8 percent of earnings.  Buoyed by steady cash flows, the company also announced a 31 percent hike in dividend payments to P17 per share, up from P13 in 2025. Total dividends for the year will reach P20.7 billion, marking the fifth consecutive year of increases for the firm.  &quot;We intend to provide greater returns to shareholders. Our businesses provide us with strong, diverse and reliable cashflows that enable us to do so while also growing our businesses and maintaining a strong balance sheet,&quot; DyBuncio said.  Since its public listing in 2005, the group has returned nearly P149 billion in dividends to shareholders. SM Investments maintains a conservative capital structure with total assets valued at P1.8 trillion.  The company’s banking interests include BDO Unibank, the nation&#x27;s largest lender, and China Banking Corp. Shareholders on record as of May 14 will receive the dividend payments on May 28
