MANILA — The government needs the help of online sellers in identifying intellectual property violations, the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) said Wednesday.In a press conference, Atty. Christine Pangilinan-Canlapan — director of the IPOPHL&#x27;s bureau of legal affairs — said it is harder to monitor counterfeit products online.&quot;It&#x27;s a reality nowadays that everything has shifted to the online space, and it&#x27;s very hard to monitor,&quot; she said.&quot;Sellers are selling items across borders, and it&#x27;s very hard for regulatory agencies like the IPOPHL to monitor, and that is where we seek the help of our brand owners themselves to report any issues or concerns regarding violations of their intellectual property rights,&quot; she explained.Canlapan was speaking at a panel hosted by TikTok Shop Philippines, after a brand representative said businesses need the government&#x27;s help in strictly implementing intellectual property laws.For his part, Atty. Lorenzo Martin Hautea of the Department of Trade and Industry - E-Commerce Bureau (DTI-ECB) said the government gives out an E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark to selected businesses.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/business/2025/11/28/dti-may-keep-online-seller-s-trustmark-registration-voluntary-1902">DTI may keep online seller&#x27;s trustmark registration voluntary </a></div>&quot;It is a digital badge the government gives out...in order to build trust with regard to consumers. Because by granting such, we give online consumers assurance that these businesses comply...as well as they perform good e-commerce practices, ethical e-commerce practices,&quot; he explained.Hautea said TikTok Shop is the first e-marketplace to have been given an E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark.In its latest safety report, TikTok Shop said it declined 1.4 million seller account registrations worldwide from January to June 2025.<div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/news/technology/2025/4/3/tiktok-removes-4-5-million-videos-in-philippines-for-breaking-community-guidelines-1844" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">TikTok deletes 4.5 million videos in PH for breaking community guidelines</a></div>The company said these sellers did not meet its rigorous standards. Sellers are required to provide documents verifying their identity, the identities of any business representatives, business type, and eligibility to operate that business.TikTok Shop also prevented more than 70 million products from being listed as these items went against their guidelines.The following items cannot be sold on TikTok Shop:<ol><li>Any products whose sale or shipment violate applicable laws or regulations in any country that are being advertised for sale</li><li>Stolen goods that are not the property of the seller, or that were obtained through illegal means</li><li>Gray market and counterfeit products, as well as any products which violate the intellectual property or proprietary right of a third party</li><li>Any products that may not be lawfully imported into the country where the buyer is located, including products sourced from or manufactured in territories subject to economic or trade sanctions</li><li>Any products that were recalled by manufacturers or governmental, national, or international agencies</li><li>Any products that present a significant safety risk to consumers on TikTok Shop</li></ol>
