MANILA – Maynilad has launched the partial operation of its first dedicated raw water reservoir in Manila to shore up supplies during the dry season, the company said on Tuesday.The initial phase utilizes a converted lagoon at the La Mesa Water Treatment Plant in Quezon City, allowing Maynilad to store up to 67 million liters of raw water. The facility aims to stabilize the supply buffer for the capital&#x27;s West Zone when inflows from the Angat–Ipo Dam system drop due to low rainfall, Maynilad said.The project, scheduled for full completion by June 2026, involves repurposing former sludge lagoons into a six-meter-deep impounding reservoir capable of holding 200 million liters of raw water.Besides acting as a dry-season buffer, the facility will serve as a settling basin during periods of elevated turbidity, letting suspended particles settle naturally before treatment.“This facility enhances our ability to manage raw water variability and maintain stable treatment operations, particularly during periods of lower inflow or higher turbidity,” said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Christopher Jaime T. Lichauco.The reservoir is Maynilad’s first for raw water, complementing its 38 existing treated-water reservoirs.Maynilad, a concessionaire of the government&#x27;s Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), operates the largest water concession by population in the Philippines. It serves the West zone of Metro Manila and adjacent provinces.
