MANILA - First Gen Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Federico Lopez said Thursday that he is hopeful for a resolution of the Lopez family rift. During the virtual Annual Stockholders’ Meeting of First Gen, Lopez said he welcomes the withdrawal of the Lopez, Inc. board to remove him as President and CEO of Lopez, Inc. The Lopez majority had said that the move opens a window for discussions among family members.“I view the gesture of withdrawing the board resolution as a possible first step for all parties to finally resolve the issues that has, unfortunately, been dividing our clan. It’s my hope this initial step will lead to an amicable, fair, and lasting resolution of the rift within the family and the Lopez group,” Piki Lopez said.He assured stockholders of all Lopez group companies that he would continue to act as a responsible steward of the group&#x27;s various businesses.Meanwhile, the so-called poison pill in an agreement is a standard and acceptable portion of any deal particularly in high-investment sectors like power, said First Gen President and Chief Operating Officer Giles Puno.Puno was referring to the ‘poison pill’ in the deal between First Gen and Prime Infra. Under the said clause, the Lopez Group could lose P16 billion in discounts if Federico ‘Piki’ Lopez is removed from his post. The 71 percent majority of the Lopez Group earlier criticized this provision.“Note that the change of management control provision is widely recognized as a relatively standard contractual mechanism in the energy and infrastructure industries,” Puno said.Puno also said that it was the Razon group who requested the inclusion of the said clause.Lopez Inc is the parent of ABS-CBN Corp.
