MANILA - VinFast Philippines and electric mobility firm Green GSM have launched an electric vehicle (EV) rental scheme in the Philippines, which they said aim to lower entry barriers for drivers looking to join the ride-hailing market.The program, named RENTAPASADA, offers qualified drivers a &quot;drive-to-earn&quot; model using VinFast EVs on the Green GSM network, VinFast said. The initiative targets a persistent bottleneck in the Southeast Asian nation&#x27;s transport sector: the steep capital required to purchase a commercial vehicle, it added.&quot;For many Filipino drivers, entering ride-hailing is not just a matter of getting behind the wheel. The cost of buying a vehicle, meeting bank requirements, daily boundary arrangements, and fuel expenses can make it difficult to start, even for those who already have the skill and willingness to drive,&quot; the companies said in a statement.Under the framework, drivers can bypass traditional dealer down payments and bank credit checks by paying a P5,000 security deposit, subject to regulatory approvals.Green GSM will also cover key requirements such as LTO registration, inspection fees, road maintenance fees, PAMI, vehicle insurance and CTPL, periodic maintenance, and GPS installation, VinFast said.&quot;They will also assist drivers with the TNVS registration/application process, while the required license or accreditation must still be secured under the driver’s name, subject to proper approval,&quot; the company added.<div>FREE CHARGING</div>VinFast said the program provides an alternative to the country&#x27;s traditional &quot;boundary&quot; leasing system, where public transport drivers pay a flat daily fee to owners and bear the fluctuating costs of fuel and maintenance out of pocket.RENTAPASADA will instead charge a fixed daily deduction of P1,300 for the Herio Green model (including a P1,050 rental fee) and P1,650 for the Limo Green model (including a P1,350 rental fee).The fleet will receive free charging via the V-Green infrastructure network from March 13, 2026, through March 31, 2029, to protect drivers from volatile energy costs, VinFast said. Green GSM will also absorb overhead operational expenses, including vehicle insurance, maintenance, and registration fees, the company added.Drivers will retain 90 percent of trip earnings in their first year, and 85 percent during the second and third years. Retention is tied to strict performance metrics, requiring a minimum of 250 monthly completed trips and a 90 percent acceptance rate, the company said.&quot;At its core, RENTAPASADA is not just about putting more electric vehicles on the road. It is about giving Filipino drivers another way to participate in the ride-hailing economy,&quot; the company said.
