MANILA -- Water concessionaires Maynilad and Manila Water assure customers that supply remains normal despite a reduction in the allocation of water from the Angat Dam in Bulacan.From 50 cubic meters per second in June, the National Water Resources Board has decided to reduce the allocation to the concessionaires to 48 cubic meters per second.Metro Manila and its neighboring areas get around 90 percent of their potable water needs from Angat Dam.As of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the dam&#x27;s water level was at 159.90 meters, below the critical level of 160 meters.<div>MAYNILAD SITUATION: WATER SUPPLY TO REMAIN NORMAL</div>But Maynilad said there is no water interruption yet despite the reduced supply.Even if the allocation is further reduced, Maynilad said the water supply will remain normal due to programs it put in place in anticipation of the effects of El Niño.&quot;A key part of this improved readiness is Maynilad’s Laguna Lake treatment capacity, which now totals 450 million liters per day (MLD) through Putatan Water Treatment Plants 1 and 2 and the Poblacion Water Treatment Plant, each with a design capacity of 150 MLD,&quot; Maynilad said in a statement.According to Maynilad, it has also increased its total treatment capacity from 2,700 MLD in 2019 to 2,873 MLD this year, supported by projects like modular treatment plants and deep wells.<div>MANILA WATER: NO WATER INTERRUPTION</div>Manila Water, for its part, also assured its customers that no interruption will happen due to the reduced allocation. The company said it can augment its supply from the water sourced from Laguna Lake and its new Wawa dam facility.&quot;Among the key sources already in operation are the Upper Wawa Dam and Tayabasan Weir, which can deliver up to 710 million liters per day and serve as a major buffer during supply constraints. Currently, additional water coming from the Calawis Water Supply System Phase 1 can provide up to 80 million liters per day,&quot; said Manila Water.<div>WATER NEEDS OF CONCESSIONAIRES</div>The current allocation of 48 cubic meters per second is equivalent to around 4.150 billion liters of water per day.Manila Water needs up to 1.7 billion liters of water per day. But its allocation from Angat is about 1.48 billion liters per day.The supply deficit will be sourced from Manila Water&#x27;s treatment plants at Cardona and East Bay.For Maynilad, for July 2026, it needs 2.175 billion liters of water per day, bigger than Manila Water&#x27;s need, as it serves a larger customer base—around 10.5 million people in the West Zone.
