Yellow Alert

MANILA -- The Visayas grid is on Yellow Alert on the first day of July. The Yellow Alert is in effect from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., said the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The NGCP said available demand is expected to reach 2,599MW, but peak demand may reach 2,411MW. A Yellow Alert means plants are producing less than the grid&#x27;s contingency requirement.Two plants are out today, while 8 plants have been out since June. Seven plants have been out since May, while one has been out since March.The Visayas power grid has been experiencing power shortages since early May, but the Department of Energy said this may soon end by July as key plants return online and emergency capacity is deployed.
