<div> </div>MANILA — Telecom giants PLDT and DITO Telecommunity have signed a landmark infrastructure-sharing agreement to expand network coverage and cut rollout costs, the companies announced Friday.The non-monetary deal, which also includes PLDT&#x27;s mobile subsidiary Smart Communications, creates a reciprocal framework allowing the rivals to share cell towers, indoor building facilities, and international submarine cable capacity.By maximizing existing infrastructure rather than building separate, duplicating networks, the operators aim to accelerate digital inclusion across the archipelago while deploying capital more efficiently.&quot;Connecting the country is a responsibility that we all share as Philippine telcos,&quot; PLDT Chairman and CEO Manuel Pangilinan said in a statement. &quot;This agreement reflects that, even as we compete in the marketplace, we can collaborate where it matters the most.&quot;The alliance marks a rare moment of cooperation between dominant player, PLDT, and its newest major competitor, DITO, which launched commercial operations in 2021 to challenge the long-standing duopoly of PLDT and Globe Telecom.The companies did not disclose the exact number of sites or the volume of cable capacity involved in the initial phase. However, DITO President and CEO Eric Alberto described the partnership as a &quot;modest&quot; first step that could usher in deeper cooperation.&quot;This allows both companies to deliver much better services for all our respective customers,&quot; Alberto said, adding he hoped the deal would blossom into &quot;meaningful results&quot; for the future of the country&#x27;s digital ecosystem.
