DOH logs 17 new firecracker-related cases; total cases now at 142

Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/FileMANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) said Sunday it has recorded 17 new firecracker-related cases.

This was 35-percent higher compared to last year's data wherein the DOH recorded a total of only 105 firecracker-related cases last December 29, 2023 as opposed to this year's 142 total cases.

The Health department's records were from December 22, 2024 to December 29, 2024 at 1 p.m.

Of the 142 victims, 115 are 19 years old or younger. 

Majority of the victims are also male, with 127 being recorded and 15 are female.

DOH's data also showed that 73 percent (104) of the cases are due to illegal firecrackers such as boga (PVC cannon), 5-star, and piccolo.

Further data also said that 85 victims (60 percent of 142) were actively using firecrackers.
