Antonio ‘Tony’ Botor, Founder of ABSD, personally turned over the high-tech map to Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, highlighting how this cutting-edge technology is propelling Naga City towards climate resilience.</p><p>According to Engr. Botor, Naga City is one of the most disaster-prone cities in the Bicol Region, particularly during the rainy season, the LiDAR map is a game-changer for the city’s preparedness and planning efforts.</p><p>“This donation represents a major step toward smarter, data-driven governance, especially in disaster management and flood mitigation.” Botor said. </p><div> </div><div><strong>Why this matters</strong></div><p>The high-resolution topographic map called LiDAR map covers a portion of the city, totaling approximately 3,021.9 hectares. This act of giving back provides the city with an accurate digital map, enabling officials to transition immediately from conventional methods to enhanced governance.</p><p>With this cutting-edge technology, Naga City can accurately model water flow and elevation, drastically improving flood control planning and disaster mitigation efforts. The centimeter-level precision of the LiDAR map enables the city to optimize urban planning, building resilient infrastructure that can withstand the challenges of climate change. Cedric Daep, chief of staff of the third district of Albay, said that they are already in the procurement process of LiDAR, which will be based in Polangui covering the entire district.</div><p>“Yung LiDAR kasi will give us a database that is parang aerospace technology…you can project the flooding, you can project the landslide and then you can identify the critical zones. Right after the calamity, you need not go back to assess the damages.
