MANILA — The local government of Manila is now on high alert for the possible increase in patients in hospitals due to the continuous rain and flooding in the city, according to Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso.

The mayor said on Tuesday he has advised the six hospitals in the city to stay on high alert and to ready medicines that would counter diseases common during the rainy and flooding season.

"Kagabi nag-ikot ako sa ospital, napansin ko nga na maraming mga bata. Mga nilalagnat, mga kinokombulsyon, sipon, ubo... 'yan talaga ang unang tatamaan. Ready naman 'yung ating mga pasilidad at mga gamot patungkol dyan," he added.

Domagoso also appealed to other local government agencies to double check their pumping stations as he claimed that they were not operating well as compared to the pumping stations of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

"Ang madaming tumatakbong pumping station 'yung sa MMDA. We have almost 100 pumping stations in the city, but the newly built ones by politicians and so on, is not running. Bago, hindi gumana, hindi nagamit, hindi naka-power up, and all other excuses for whatever reason is that. Kaya hirap na hirap din 'yung MMDA na i-pump out 'yung water," Domagoso said.

He also revealed that after his local government unit inspected the sewage system under Taft Avenue, they found out that no water is flowing as it is clogged with sand.
